TEACH Works With Everyone

We hear from people with very different relationships to TEACH and to incarceration. Whoever you are, you are welcome here. This work touches everyone.

If you're a family member of someone currently incarcerated and want to understand how TEACH might help them, reach out. If you're a funder evaluating criminal justice education investments, reach out. If you're a journalist covering education equity or reentry, reach out. We'll respond to every inquiry personally.

How can my loved one access TEACH programs? +
Participants access TEACH programs through facility case managers and counselors at the DOC facilities where we operate. The best first step is for your loved one to ask their case manager whether TEACH is available at their facility and how to get enrolled.
How long does it take to become a facilitator? +
The facilitator onboarding process typically takes 4–8 weeks, depending on the facility. It includes TEACH training, a DOC background check and facility approval process, and a shadowing period. Every facility has its own approval timeline, which we'll walk you through.
Is TEACH active at a specific facility near me? +
TEACH currently operates at six Washington State DOC facilities including Monroe Correctional Complex, Stafford Creek Corrections Center, Washington Corrections Center, and Clallam Bay Corrections Center. Contact us to find out which facilities are nearest to you and whether we have openings there.
Can I visit a TEACH session? +
Due to DOC facility security protocols, visits to active TEACH program sessions are limited and require advance approval. For media, researchers, or prospective facilitators interested in observing, please contact us to discuss your interest and we'll explore what's possible.
How does TEACH handle privacy for participants? +
Participant privacy is paramount. All testimonials and stories shared publicly are anonymized or used only with explicit written consent. We do not share participant names, facility assignments, or case information without permission. Our data practices comply with DOC privacy requirements and our own strict internal policies.
Is TEACH a nonprofit? Are donations tax-deductible? +
Yes. T.E.A.C.H. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. You will receive a donation receipt for your records. Please consult your tax advisor for specifics related to your situation.
